Face fit test
Face-fit tests can - by appointment - be performed at our offices in Zoetermeer and Hoogvliet. It is also possible, with sufficient participation, to perform the fitness tests at your own location. In combination with quantitative face-fitting tests, the Dräger Academy can also provide mask checks and/or a breathing protection toolbox for you. Finally, it is also possible to perform a qualitative face-fit test. For more information or a quotation, please contact us.
Testing only one person is also possible!

Gele SafetySign approved
Dräger Nederland B.V. is Gele SafetySign approved. This gives you the assurance that the people who take the face-fit tests are demonstrably competent and experienced, that the measuring method used has been validated and that the measuring equipment has been properly maintained and calibrated on time. For persons working in asbestos removal, it is an annual obligation to have a face-fit test carried out by a company recognised by SafetySign. A number of preparations are necessary to be able to take a good quantitative face-fit test and to make the testing run smoothly. We would therefore like to receive the following information from you:
- Brand and type of mask or masks to be tested. For masks with a brand specific filter connection we need a test adapter provided by you. For Dräger masks and the most common type of universal connections (e.g. Rd40) we naturally have the test adapters in our possession.
- The data of the participants in the face-fit test.
- Your choice regarding the desired test protocol and the fit factor to be used. The Dutch Association of Safety Experts (NVVK) recommends the test protocol from Great Britain (the HSE standard) for the Netherlands. Other possibilities for test protocols are OSHA (United States), CSA (Canada) and ANSI/AIHA (Australia). As standard, we test in accordance with the HSE protocol. If desired, we can provide you with more information on this subject.
The participant must also arrange a number of preperations. If the following conditions are not met, the face-fit test cannot be taken!
- The participant to be tested should not smoke 60 minutes before the fit test.
- No obstructing jewellery such as piercings may be worn in the area of the sealing edge of the respiratory protection product.
- Additional PPE - such as a helmet or goggles - worn during daily work should be brought to the fit test.
Permitted facial hair
The participant to be tested should be shaved smooth (stubble-free), at most 8 hours before the start of the fit test. See on the right an image of the permitted facial hair. Participants who are not shaved are refused. Hereby a shaving set is offered, so that they can still shave. The costs for these shaving kits are € 5.00 per item, excluding VAT.
If we perform the face-fit test at your own location, we kindly request that you reserve a test room that meets the following conditions:
- The room should be relatively clean (no production environment).
- The size of the room should be sufficient to perform the tests and to generate a stable particle concentration. The maximum size is 40 m2 with at least one table and two chairs. The room must be lockable and the ventilation must be switched off.
- With regard to the correct functioning of the test equipment, it is important that there are sufficient particles in the test room. For this it may be necessary to use a particle generator (water and salt) or to light candles.
- Due to the privacy of the participant and the prevention of external distractions, the test room should preferably not offer any external view.
Optional toolbox and mask control
Part of a responsible PPE policy is the provision of information and education on the breathing protection products in use. If desired, we can arrange this for you by means of a toolbox meeting. In approx. 60 minutes the operation, use, dos and don'ts are discussed practically and theoretically. Finally, our specialists can immediately arrange a mask check for you, where they test and test the mask according to the instructions.
A face-fit test takes approx. 20 minutes per participant per mask.

All participants will receive an individual fit test report.
